India jewelry is known for its artistic and artisanal crafts and has been providing women from all over the world with a plethora of handcrafted jewelry to choose from. An exquisite silver pendant necklace is an example.
Lockets and necklace pendants come in a variety of styles, shapes, weights, and designs. One can choose between a numbers of gemstones such as: coral, amethyst, garnet, peridot, citrix, or onyx, just to name a few. Showing a rainbow of colors, these attractive pendants can be mixed and matched with one’s everyday wardrobe. These Indian gemstone pendants are based on the original Mughal designs which were prevalent during the 16th century.
The skillful, closed setting technique that are employed for these beautiful pendants is about four centuries old, and is believed to have originated from Persia. The special stones used in the Mughal style of designing Indian jewelry are generally asymmetrically faceted and irregularly outlined, giving them unique character. These stones are set in position, particularly in the lac-filled, hollow unit of the necklace pendant, over a sheet of metallic foil. These pieces of metallic foil are used to reflect the light entering from the front. This is believed to be the only method used for traditional closed setting.
